Would you rather live in a treehouse or cave?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 07, 2007:
Treehouse, please.
I am one with trees.
Nothing against a rocky cave. I am one with stone as well.

Perhaps it's a hangover from the old Conelrad A-Bomb fire drills of the 1950's, but a cave seems a safer retreat than a treehouse. Much as I adore being high in the trees, I wouldn't feel quite as safe in a thunderstorm. Also, don't you think that building structures in trees might be a bit cruel to these living beings???? The weight of a house and the constant jumping about and movement of humans and pets within it is bound to put extra stress not only on the limbs, but also the root structures. We have fewer and fewer trees these days. We need to respect every part of their being among us! Caves have their own dangers, of course, but I'd feel less invasive, somehow, although we'd be depriving bats of some space, I suppose.
